The Mount Pleasant Kilties captured the “We Got Next” Championship in dramatic fashion, edging out the first-place CB Stars 47–45 in a game that came down to the final seconds.
This matchup between the league’s top seed and the No. 3-ranked Kilties lived up to the hype — a high-energy, hard-fought battle from start to finish.
Fast Start, Tight First Half
Mount Pleasant came out strong in the opening quarter, setting the tone early with aggressive defense and efficient scoring. But the CB Stars fought back, chipping away at the deficit until they trailed by just two points at halftime.
Back-and-Forth Second Half
The second half was a seesaw affair, with neither team allowing the other to pull away. The Kilties managed to keep a slim lead — never more than four or five points — heading into the final minutes.
With less than two minutes remaining, Mount Pleasant held what seemed like a safe 8-point advantage. But the Stars weren’t done. They cut into the lead with an “and-one” play, followed by a clutch corner jumper that brought the score within three with under 30 seconds left.
Nerve-Wracking Final Seconds
Up by three with only five seconds remaining, the Kilties were called for a foul. The Stars went to the line in a one-and-one situation, hitting the first free throw. Attempting to miss the second shot and regain possession intentionally, the shooter’s effort hit the backboard — resulting in a violation. The ball went back to Mount Pleasant, who inbounded and ran out the clock to secure the championship.
MVP Performances & Team Effort
Co-MVPs Jaden Anson and Benji Mordan led the way on both ends of the floor, delivering energy, leadership, and key plays when it mattered most. Every player contributed to this victory, and special thanks go to Coach Charles Holliday for his guidance and dedication throughout the summer.
Gratitude & Recognition
We want to congratulate the CB Stars on a great game and an outstanding season. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the “We Got Next” League, our incredible fans, and the RI State Police for their support of youth sports all summer long.
The Mount Pleasant Kilties are proud champions — and we can’t wait to build on this success next season.
