On Tuesday, February 4, 2025 we held our 3rd annual Mount Pleasant Basketball “Ring of Honor” induction ceremony tonight. This year’s class included one player and two individuals recognized for their generous contributions to the program.

Our first inductee, Loyd “Butta” Jones (#22), was a prolific scorer in the mid-90s. As a senior, he led his team to a state playoff semi-final appearance, upsetting a two-seed (Cranston East). Butta scored 50 points in a single game against Hope during his senior year and is arguably Mount Pleasant’s highest scorer in boys basketball history. This honor is well-deserved.

Our second inductee, Eddy Angell (#10), was a talented basketball and baseball player in the mid-80s. He developed into one of the best shooters and starting pitchers in the Interscholastic League by his senior year, serving as co-captain for both the basketball and baseball teams alongside current boys basketball head coach, Charles Holliday. After graduation, Eddy helped several student-athletes secure scholarships. His contributions over the years have been invaluable to the program’s continued success. Congratulations, Eddy!

Our final inductee, Ray “BIG RED” Dempsey (#23), a gentle giant from the legendary Smith Hill area, helped establish the Kiltie basketball tradition in the mid-70s. A product of the same neighborhood as legendary coach Jim Ahern, Ray always had a strong connection to the Kilties. After graduating, Ray played basketball at RIC. Over the years, he has consistently attended important games and practices to support the players. In 2018, he played a key role in helping the team receive awards after their Division-1 state championship victory. The program deeply appreciates Ray’s service as a player and his ongoing commitment to the student-athletes and the boys basketball program.

As head coach, I would like to personally thank this year’s inductees into the “Ring of Honor.”

Coach Holliday
